Random Team Generator — Team Picker Wheel
A group generator for class projects and game nights — not NFL or MLB franchise wheels. Paste a roster, spin, and deal the results into teams.
The fairest way to pick teams
Captains picking players is a tradition nobody enjoys except the captains. A random team generator wheel replaces the playground hierarchy with a single transparent process: paste the roster, spin, and deal the results into teams. Everyone sees the same wheel, so the teams are nobody's fault — and nobody's favor.
Two proven methods
Method 1: The snake draft (best for 2 teams)
Paste the roster and enable Remove winner
Each spin removes the picked name, producing a clean random order.
Spin and alternate
First pick goes to Team A, second to Team B — or snake it (A, B, B, A) for tighter balance.
Read from the Results list
Prefer to spin fast? Spin through everyone, then split the final Results order down the middle.
Method 2: The dealing method (best for 3+ groups)
Spin once through the whole roster with Remove winner on. Then deal the Results list like cards: position 1 → Group 1, position 2 → Group 2, and so on, wrapping around. Every group ends up within one member of the same size, built from a single verifiable random order.
Where people use this team generator
- PE and sports practice — balanced scrimmage sides in front of the whole squad.
- Classroom project groups — pair it with the classroom name picker for a full lesson toolkit.
- Game nights and trivia — instant teams, zero politics.
- Workshops and offsites — break silos with visibly random breakout groups.
Team generator FAQ
How do I split names into teams with this wheel?
Turn on Remove winner, then spin and assign each picked name alternately to Team A and Team B. The Results list shows the full random order, which you can split anywhere.
Can I generate more than two teams?
Yes — spin the full elimination order once, then deal the Results list into however many groups you need (positions 1, 4, 7… become Team 1, and so on). Balanced and argument-proof.
Is the team order truly random?
Yes. Each spin is independent and uniformly random, so the resulting order is a genuine random permutation of your roster.
Can I make captains or seed strong players?
You can handle seeding manually: remove captains from the list first, then spin the remaining roster into teams around them.
