swheel was created by Anique Ahmed, a web developer and creator focused on building fast, reliable, privacy-respecting browser utilities. The project started with a simple frustration: every popular spin-the-wheel or name picker on the web came with friction — invasive video interstitials covering the wheel, basic features locked behind subscription paywalls, or entry rosters quietly uploaded to third-party databases.
Teachers do not want popups appearing when they call on students during a lesson. Streamers do not want paywalls interrupting a live raffle. And students' and participants' private names never belong on an external server.
swheel was designed from the ground up to solve these problems: lightweight, fast, and private by architecture. Your entries and rosters never leave your personal device. The wheel computes its animation and physics entirely client-side, saves to local storage on your machine, and generates share links through self-contained URL parameters. Capabilities that other platforms charge for — such as weighted entries like [2x], clean iframe embeds, elimination mode draws, and custom visual palettes — are free and accessible to all users.
Engineering & Algorithmic Fairness
Many online spinners rely on basic pseudo-random math formulas (such as Math.random()) that can be predictable or exhibit subtle clustering. swheel integrates the browser-native W3C Web Cryptography API (window.crypto.getRandomValues) to generate cryptographically seeded entropy for wheel physics, spin duration, and needle deceleration.
Every wedge calculation is open, client-side, and verifiable right in your browser console. Equal active slices receive equal geometric angles, while explicit weights scale slice areas with exact mathematical precision.
Our Core Principles
- Fairness should be visible: Every participant sees the exact same wheel decelerating in real-time, making drawings transparent and enjoyable for everyone in the room.
- Privacy is absolute: All roster data is stored locally in your browser cache. We do not require accounts, we do not track your entries, and we maintain no database of custom lists.
- Ads never compromise the tool: While advertising partners help support our server and maintenance costs, ads are never placed over the wheel, entry inputs, or winner buttons.
- Accessibility & Speed: Built using static Astro generation for lightning-fast loads, zero layout shift, and full keyboard navigation (press Space to spin, Esc to close).
